Lightsource bp receives ‘Clean Growth’ award for rapid expansion in Spain
Global solar leader Lightsource bp has received the ‘Clean growth’ award in the fourth edition of the UK-Spain Business Awards, granted by the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Spain.
The award recognises the growth of the company across Spain and its commitment to deliver renewable energy at pace and scale across the country and the region. Lightsource bp has developed more than 2GW of utility solar since setting up in 2019 including a 1.6GW portfolio of projects which have secured environmental authorisation due for commissioning in 2025. 400MW of this portfolio is already commissioned and successfully powering Spanish businesses and communities with renewable energy.
Kareen Boutonnat, CEO EMEA and APAC at Lightsource bp, said: “We are especially grateful to the British Embassy in Spain for recognising Lightsource bp’s growth and track record in Spain. We have an amazing and dedicated team that are focussed on realising the best potential for solar in Spain, strengthening local energy security. This award also applauds the journey we have been on in setting up our operations in Spain and establishing Lightsource bp as a trusted local employer, investor, and partner.”
Over the next few years Lightsource bp has set out very clear ambitions for growth.
Firstly, progressing its 1.6GW developed solar portfolio to commissioning by 2025, which will involve 1,2 bn euros of investment and create over 5000 local construction jobs. The company intends for the renewable energy supply from these projects to be accessed through tailored power contracts (PPAs), facilitated by its highly experienced power marketing team and recently engaging with local industry partners and global brands.
Secondly, Lightsource bp will continue to progress its gigawatt-scale greenfield opportunities pipeline, aiming to raise its total developed capacity significantly over the next few years.
