Netherlands: Championing sustainable energy, biodiversity and agrivoltaics in partnership with the British Embassy

On 13 June, Lightsource bp’s team in the Netherlands partnered with the British Embassy in The Hague to celebrate King Charles III’s Birthday. As a key event partner, the team took this opportunity to discuss and promote the importance and benefits of agrivoltaics with stakeholders from the political, business, academic and cultural worlds, promoting Lightsource bp’s activities in the Netherlands.

Dual-use solar farms, or agrivoltaics, refers to a combination of solar energy generation with agricultural production. This innovative approach allows us to build solar panels above farmland, enabling farmers to continue growing crops and grazing livestock while harnessing solar energy.

Albert Sein, our Head of Business Development in the Netherlands, emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable development. “Our dual-use solar farms across the world are perfect examples of how we can balance technological advancement with environmental stewardship. By engaging with as many local communities as we can, we aim to forge stronger partnerships and open new growth avenues in the Netherlands for renewable energy.”

The event was a success, marked by fruitful conversations and building new relationships. The embassy recognised Lightsource bp as an energy business “representing the best of UK/NL innovation”. It was an honour and a reflection of Lightsource bp’s efforts in the region, making significant strides in advancing a robust, 1GW pipeline of solar and storage opportunities.

Albert added, “Events like these provide a unique platform to connect, share ideas, and explore collaborative opportunities. It’s not just about celebrating; it’s about creating meaningful partnerships that can support the growth of renewables across the Netherlands.”
