Case study: Budai project, Taiwan
100MW solar farm in Chiayi County, Taiwan
The Budai project is a 100MW solar PV project in the Budai Township within Chiayi County, Taiwan. Co-developed by local company Green Rock Energy, the project will be developed across an area of over 100 hectares, and upon completion will be one of the largest fishery solar farms in Taiwan, creating 750 employment opportunities during construction, which is expected to commence in Q3 2023.
Once constructed, the project will produce 210,000MW of renewable electricity a year – that’s enough to power roughly 43,000 homes and save 133,770 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Integrating solar PV technology with local fisheries
As an area known for fish farming, the integration of fisheries technology with solar PV technology is particularly benefiting the Budai region. While maintaining food security, it can enhance energy independence and help decarbonize the energy sector of Taiwan
The move to enter the Taiwanese market comes after we secured a $1.8 billion credit and trade finance facility in 2021. The funding is provided by 10 top tier global financial institutions, to aid its growth ambitions and execution strategy as it continues to accelerate the deployment of solar across the EMEA, Americas and Asia Pacific regions.
