European solar jobs increased 39% in 2022
Employment in the solar industry jumped by 39% in 2022, according to the latest EU Solar Jobs Report.
The annual study by the SolarPower Europe trade association found that 648,000 people are now working in the sector. This figure is expected to reach 1 million by 2025, a full five years earlier than previous expectations.
“Looking at the solar skills gap, we’re beginning to tackle quantity, and now we need to re-double our efforts on quality,” said Walburga Hemetsberger, CEO at SolarPower Europe. “Citizens and businesses must feel confident that their solar project is manufactured, installed, and maintained by properly trained, trustworthy, professionals.”
Installation and deployment of solar accounts for 84% of the jobs, with operations and maintenance (8%) and manufacturing (7%) also contributing.
