Giving back to the community with Lightsource bp
On International Day of Charity 2022, we launched our new Volunteer Time-Off Policy. Our new policy covers how colleagues can optimise their one-day a year to volunteer for a charity or not-for-profit organisation. We are committed to making meaningful contributions to the communities where we work and live.
As part of our organisational culture and how we represent ourselves, we feel passionately about being the change and encouraging our colleagues to;
be you | be responsible | be recognised | be inspired.
Our volunteer day will support us at Lightsource bp to embed these values into the community.
We encourage colleagues to use their day and it is completely up to them in how they decide to use it.
Here’s what some of our team members said about their volunteering experience:
Our Operations and Maintenance Director volunteered at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and was responsible for front of house and departures experience to ensure attendees had a positive experience. He said his experience in Birmingham was not one to forget.
“A huge thank you to Lightsource bp for enabling me to take a day out for this – I encourage everyone to get out there and volunteer!”
Our Business Development Manager at Lightsource Labs volunteered for a London-based charity, ‘Free to Be’, that provides support for local children. She spent time taking children on day-long trips to the countryside and said it was great to help and see how the charity makes a positive impact on young people.
“I’d absolutely recommend taking the volunteer day to work with people in your area – it’s a fantastic way to reinvest time into a local community and make friends while you’re at it!”
A group of our US team members volunteered with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank and helped pack and distribute hundreds of bags of food, and assisted with the clean-up following the event.
“Volunteering and giving back is an absolute passion – it’s up to all of us as individuals to make a positive impact, no matter how big or small.”
At Lightsource bp we are passionate about people and want our team members to have the opportunity to give back – these examples only scratch the surface of the volunteer work we hope to do in our global community.
