Lightsource BP expands European footprint as operations in Italy go ‘live’
21st November 2018, Milan/London – Lightsource BP, Europe’s largest solar power company and a global leader in the funding, development and long-term operation of solar energy projects, has today announced that it is further extending its European operations with an expansion into the Italian energy sector. Lightsource BP has already established operations across Europe in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Netherlands.
The local team, based in Milan will seek to create a pipeline of greenfield solar projects for utilities and work with local partners on co-development, offering Italian commercial customers world-class solutions in solar energy and energy storage.
In June of this year Italy joined several other EU countries dedicated to a binding renewables target of 35% by 2030. This target, paired with the fact that Italy has consistently ranked in the top ten solar producers worldwide in the past decade, suggests that the local and economic climate makes the market an attractive one for Lightsource BP.
Founder and Group CEO Nick Boyle was initially inspired to venture into solar by a visit to the Italian countryside, so for Lightsource BP this expansion could be seen to have been long-anticipated.
Nick Boyle, Lightsource BP Group CEO, said: “We’re excited to be setting up in Italy, considering this is where it all started for us. We began day one with a focus on finance and investment, and we are pleased to bring this expertise and capability to the Italian power market.”
“As we continue to grow our operations across Europe, we will leverage our global footprint to be cost-competitive in the local market and look to work with local partners that can benefit from our knowledge in the sector.”
