Spain: Agrivoltaics workshop held in partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy
Lightsource bp is ramping up its capabilities to deliver important agrivoltaics projects to support sustainable farming businesses.
There is growing interest from the farming sector as the clear benefits of dual-use land become more tangible. Focussed agrivoltaics regulatory frameworks are also being developed to deliver dual land-use in more established markets. To continue optimising our support for the agricultural economy, Lightsource bp, in partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy, held an interactive, technical workshop at its EMEA hub in Madrid. Bringing together over 30 members from across Lightsource bp engineering and technical project teams, the workshop provided an opportunity to share and learn about the latest industry developments, enriching and de-risking our ongoing agrivoltaics projects as well as exploring new approaches.
With the objective of growing understanding of diverse agriculture contexts, and delivering the best outcomes to farmers while continuing to help meet the rising demand for affordable, reliable and sustainable energy, the workshop sessions focused on best practices for combining agriculture with solar operations.
Emilien Simonot, Head of Agrivoltaics, EMEA and APAC at Lightsource bp, said: “We are committed to developing and incorporating the specific capabilities that working with, and for, agriculture requires. With Lightsource bp’s global track record and our experience working with farmers, we are in a unique position to combine agriculturally compatible designs with the competitiveness achieved by our solar projects over the years.”
Lightsource bp is proud to be proactively enhancing its agrivoltaic capabilities and bringing more opportunity to layer the benefits of solar into farming practice. Through knowledge exchange workshops with leading industry experts such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy, Lightsource bp can support farmers with this evolving technology while maintaining productive land and delivering affordable, reliable and sustainable energy.
