Proposed installation at Straboe, Tullow, Co. Carlow

Lightsource bp is working on a proposal for a solar and energy storage project at Straboe, Tullow, Co. Carlow. We will fund and operate a solar PV project connected into the local electricity network, with an output power capacity of 95MWac (Megawatts alternating current), alongside a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 95MWac.

This site has been carefully selected, and a wide range of environmental assessments are being undertaken to inform Lightsource bp’s plans. These assessments cover a variety of areas, including but not limited to landscape and visual, heritage and archaeology, ecology and ornithology, flooding and more.

A key part of developing plans for the solar and energy storage project is engaging with local communities, so we held an information event on Wednesday 7th May at Grange GAC Club Hall, Killerig, Co. Carlow between 2pm – 8pm, to inform the local community and ask for their feedback. Members of the Lightsource bp team were on hand to answer any questions about the proposal from local residents and interested parties, and we sent out an information leaflet to the local community, as well as a press release to local newspapers.
