Problem-solving pro, Kin’s story
Joined 2013, UK – I joined Lightsource bp when the company was only focused in UK. My previous job allowed me to work on a wide range of transactions but I always worked a specific part of the deal and saw only a small part of the puzzle. I was attracted to the Lightsource bp job because even though it would be focused on one sector and one country, it would allow me to see the complete picture from start to finish, from inception, to construction and to operations.
I manage a small team of six, within the structured finance department, working on debt and equity financing. We also work in other areas of the company, working with development to help them evaluate each opportunity, working directly on the projects on the lead up to construction and working with asset management and accounts with the ongoing budgeting and reporting of the projects once they are operational. The team is involved with every country that Lightsource bp is in.
In my spare time, I love to travel and am an avid gamer – although you wouldn’t think it, my job fits perfectly with both of those interests. The role allows me to be involved globally and work on every aspect of the project, giving me a chance to learn a lot about a wide range of different countries. I also focus on optimisation in a wide range of situations, giving me plenty of chances to flex my problem-solving muscles and be creative with solutions.
When I joined, solar was still a relatively new industry, evolving and changing rapidly – this attracted my interest and has held it for nearly a decade. Lightsource bp has an incredible ability to react and respond to changes and challenges, which is a huge strength in an industry as variable as ours. We’re a dynamic company operating in a dynamic industry, and that for me is a huge reason why I’ve stayed for seven years.
