Powering Davidstow Creamery

Lightsource bp has partnered with Saputo UK to support its effort to source more renewable energy to power its Davidstow Creamery, which is home to the UK’s favourite cheese – Cathedral City. The solar project, located in Cornwall, includes a new substation and cable to connect to the creamery, which will deliver an estimated 5307MWh of electricity annually, enough to power 10% of the factory’s annual energy needs. Here is a press release to the local paper, and an information leaflet was posted to nearby residents.

The site, which sits on land adjacent to the factory, became fully operational in Autumn 2021. By signing a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the project will help Saputo reach its target of reducing operational energy use by 20% by 2025 as well as reduce its reliance on the national grid.
