Celebrating PA Pulse with Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro on Earth Day 2024
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has taken a significant step forward in its PA PULSE initiative, aimed to source 50% of its annual energy consumption from solar – the largest renewable energy commitment in the nation by any state government. Governor Josh Shapiro joined Lightsource bp, Constellation and other partners at a Lightsource bp solar farm in York County on Earth Day 2024 to celebrate progress towards this nation-leading goal.
The solar farm, which just entered commercial operation, is part of Lightsource bp’s Cottontail Solar, a clean energy project with sites across the state. As of the celebration date, two Cottontail Solar sites totaling 54MWdc (40MWac) are online – this site in York and another in Juniata County. Four more are under construction, in York, Northumberland and Snyder Counties, with two due to go online by the end of April and two more planned for June.
By mid-year, six sites will be delivering in total 153 MWdc of Pennsylvania-grown electricity to the Commonwealth. Additional sites are in development across the state.
“These projects are shining examples of how a public-private partnership is advancing the energy transition, providing a cleaner, healthier environment for the community – along with increased energy security and independence,” said Emilie Wangerman, Head of USA, Chief Operating Officer (interim) at Lightsource bp. “The partners – Constellation, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Lightsource bp – are mutually aligned in our goal to maximize its benefits for our local communities.”
Speakers at the event included Governor Shapiro, Department of General Services (DGS) Secretary Reggie McNeil, Constellation President & CEO Joseph Dominguez, and Lightsource bp Senior Vice President of Government Relations & Environmental Affairs Alyssa Edwards.
